Tamerlane brought a male elephant to Akşehir and let it loose. The animal wanadered all over the town and ruined vineyards, farms and gardens. To make matters worse, Tamerlane ordered the people in Akşehir to supply its food. The elephant was calamitous. Finally, the people were fed up and asked Hodja to talk to Tamerlane about the elephant.

"Hodja, only you can convince Tamerlane to do something about this problem we have." they said.

"You are right." said Hodja. "Tomorrow, I want ten or fifteen people with me when I go and talk to Tamerlane."

Next day, Hodja met with the others and started walking in front of the group. When they were near Tamerlane's tent, Hodja turned back and saw that he was all alone. Everyone was so scared that they had fled.

"I'll show you." Hodja said to himself and he went into the tent to talk to Tamerlane.

"Dear sir," he said, we the people of Akşehir, love the elephant you brought to our town but feel sorry for it because it is all alone. So, on behalf of my people I came here to ask you to bring in a female elephant to keep him company." Tamerlane was pleased with what he had just heard.

"Give my greetings to your people. I will make their wishes come true soon."

When Hodja returned to town everybody wanted to know what Tamerlane had said.

"Be happy, everyone." Hodja said. "The female calamity will be here soon, too."
